1.

This video pretty much sums up the big day.

Henry woke up this morning to presents and singing -- which he ignored; missed his morning nap because he was so excited that Oma was in town; went to the doctor and had 4 shots (what kind of mother takes her kid to the doctor on his birthday, knowing full well that he will receive a series of immunizations?); came home to meet dad, more singing, and birthday cake (see attached video); and went out after dinner to purchase his very own forward-facing car seat.

Without a doubt, this guy is the king lion. He is the bee's knees. Tomorrow is the first day of his second year of life and I can't help but reflect on everything we have been through over the past 12 months. Not normally one to reach for the superlative, I have to admit that the past year has been the most challenging, at times the most daunting, the happiest, most laughter-filled, most rewarding, absolute best year of our life. As the hackneyed expression about children so often goes, our son is the best thing that ever happened to us. Happy birthday, Henry son.

*please note that little h did not choke on anything in his cupcake, despite the look on his face. this reaction is the norm for him when it comes to trying new foods. i have josh to thank for henry's strong gag reflex.

  2. So lets say there are two (three) of my favorite people in the world that i have been trying to get ahold of for two years and i thought i had their phone number until i called it and a mexican woman answered "hola". What would you recommend doing?
P.S. The mexican woman did not know a Josh Thatcher, but Jose was there and I guess it makes sense that she thought i was pronouncing "Jose" wrong. Jose did not know Josh either.
